Tasting Notes: Honeydew, Lime Peel, Lemon Verbana, Tarragon, Hazelnut
Synonyms: Viura, Maccabéo, Maccabeu
Also commonly known as Viura in Rioja, and Maccabéo in Southern France, Macabeo grapes are a white wine variety, grown widely but mainly in North-East Spain. Often underestimated this varietal produces appealing wines which are lightly floral, have low acidity and be aromatic. It is popular to blend with other varieties or be oak-aged.
Young Macabeo pairs well with South-East Asian dishes and aged Macabeo pairs well with roast meats and resinous herbs.
