Literally translating as 'green grape from the village of Veltlin in the Tirol'. This variety is predominately planted in Austria, 30% of the countries vineyards are Grüner Veltliner. It is also grown in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and large plantings are found in the Adelaide Hills too. This variety produces mainly dry white wines that are highly acidic and fruity. Likes to grow in deep loess soils and dislikes dryness. Yellow grapefruit and herbiness are common flavours. A versatile, interesting variety, known for being a similar Riesling on the nose but has more texture on the palate with spicy character. Super food friendly variety and greatly complements spicy Asian dishes.
