Grenache is a widely grown variety but is commonly used for blends. It is found in Rhone blends and in GSM blends. Quality GSMs are notably from Priorat and Méntrida, Spain; Châteauneauf-du-Pape, France; Barossa Valley, Australia; and Santa Barbara, CA, USA. GSM blends have more peppery, rich elements thanks to the addition of Shiraz and Mourèdre brings perfume and anise characters.
