This pristine wine region has varying microclimates that have created rich, distinctive wines. The soils vary from loams, sandy soils to red clayey soils. From the high country in the north to the Bass Strait in the South, the small region boasts over 100 vineyards and over 50 wineries. Most vineyards are predominately family run and known for producing rich and elegant Chardonnays, Pinots and medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlot.
