Red Fruit, Black fruits, Spice
Synonyms: César Noir, Celar, Gros Monsieur, Picargniot, Romain, Romano
Early Budding, Mid Ripening, Continental-Mediterranean Climate
An extremely rare, ancient variety found in Dijon in Burgundy and in Chile where it is commonly known as Romano. Originally a widely planted variety, it mostly disappeared due to excessive yields which effected the ripening. Producing dark, tannic wines with red fruit flavours, César has a depth of flavour to it but is used mainly in blends.
