Auckland is a large, geographically diverse area and one of New Zealand's oldest wine regions. It’s made up of three sub regions all of which share the volcanic, clay-rich soils and a maritime climate. The regions are known for producing rich, ripe merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, as well as smooth, fruity Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
