THE VARIETY

Viognier

Viognier is a white varietal from the northern Rhône Valley in France, probably hailing from the Condrieu and Ampuis wine regoins, where it is first mentioned by Faujas in 1781. This grape produces wines that are particularly full-bodied and aromatic, planted in almost every wine region around the globe. In some regions it is used to make single varietal wines but more commonly seen as a blending component offering body, perfume and alcohol to the final wine. Known for its ability to produce wines with aromatic notes of white peach, honeysuckle, orange peel and roses. If you like the weight of Chardonnay you will enjoy the palate of Viognier, but expect more perfume and a slightly lighter acid.
THE REGION

Canberra District

The Canberra wine district is located within 30 minutes of Canberra. The geographically diverse region produces some of Australia’s most loved cool climate Shiraz, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay. New excitement is sweeping through the region as established winemakers are joined by a new generation of winemakers setting the scene for a future of new varietals that will increase the region’s fame through the decades ahead.
