THE VARIETY

Dolcetto

Dolcetto comes from Italy's north-west region of Piemonte, and is often referred to as the younger cousin of Nebbiolo and Barbera. Dolcetto means ‘sweet little one’. But, paradoxically, the wines are often quite dry with light earthy tannins. The fruit produces wines that are perfumed and deep in colour with hints of blackberry, dark plum, black cherry, cacao, and violet. So it goes well with a late afternoon charcuterie board, roast chicken, pizzas, and pastas with mushrooms or meat sauces and pizzas.
THE REGION

Piemonte

Bordering France and Switzerland and sitting at the foot of the Alps, Piemonte is home to the king of Italian grapes, Nebbiolo. The region is protected from the cold northern winds and rainfall by the Alps and is ideal for growing Barbera, Dolcetto and white varietals such as Cortese and Arneis.
