Ben's Winter Pick:

I feel like Pinot tonight. Pinot Tonight! Do you? Well, here is a Pinot Noir perfect for every night! Hailing from the Yarra Valley, made by one of the finest younger generation winemakers, Luke Lambert, this Pinot Noir is creation of a unique vineyard site and cunning winemaking. With approachability and deliciousness in mind the result is a resounding YUM as it hits your lips. Straight off the nose the wine is bright, spiced and filled with wonderfully fresh strawberries, blueberries and floral notes. Then followed up on the palate with its seductive body and fine tannin structure. This sure is a delicious wine and a wine I am sure to drink any opportunity I can. Get it while you can and I'm sure it will swoon you too!

THE VARIETY

Pinot Noir

As the pre-eminent grape of Burgundy, Pinot Noir has become a global yardstick for premium wine among winemakers and discerning consumers. Pinot is a very demanding grape, but in the right hands, it has a wonderful ability to express the complexities of the local terroir. Now grown around the world—including Australia, New Zealand, America and Germany—the grape produces vastly different wines. Traditionally, though, it is light-bodied and has characters of raspberry, cranberry, truffle, and allspice. Pinot Noir's silky tannins and bright acidity pairs brilliantly with wide-ranging dishes, from pasta and roasted chicken to cheese boards and salads with balsamic vinaigrettes.

THE REGION

Yarra Valley

The Yarra Valley was Victoria's first wine growing district with a history stretching back 170 years. Today the region is recognised as one of Australia's foremost cool climate regions. Such a climate, coupled with sandy loam and rocky clay sub-soil, the region makes classic styles from a wide range of varieties, like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz.
