Best of Austria, featuring Weinrieder Wines

Wednesday, 12th May

6.00 pm - 7.45 pm

On Wednesday May the 12th we are thrilled to be turning our attention to the wines of Weinreider. With presence in some of the world’s best restaurants (The Fat Duck, Wolfgang Puck, Hollywood’s Starkoch Restaurant), as well as being awarded Gault Millau’s Wine of the Year in 2016, it’s no wonder the international press consider Weinrider to be the Best of Austria! His stunning wines will be paired with a Japanese inspired menu, all prepared by our in-house Sushi masters.

Weinrieder is an incredible producer based in the centre of the Weinviertel region of Austria. Owner and winemaker, Freidrich Rieder, and his family produce high quality wines with power and character. As well as having a great reputation as an Eiswein producer, they’re well known for their peppery Gruner Veltiners and racy, fully flavoured Rieslings; all of which consistently achieve marks of 90+. Weinrieder’s winery is located in one of the most significant wine-growing regions of Austria, where the micro-climate, rainfall, temperature and soil create perfect conditions for cultivating these fruit-driven whites.

Aaron Commins, one of Western Australia’s first qualified sommeliers, will be joining us for the evening to present this exciting line-up. For the past few decades Aaron has been involved in some of Western Australia’s, and the country’s, most recognisable restaurants; building and contributing to wine lists that continue to garner national attention and awards.  His resume is spiked with long tenures at such Melbourne institutions as Becco and MoVida, before heading west in 2009 to head up Must Wine Bar before opening Print Hall in 2012. During his term as President of Sommeliers Australia in Perth Aaron helped to bridge the gap between professional taster and weekend warrior.  Years of wine-focused travel has since led him to importing wine from the likes of Germany, Austria, France, and Italy.

During this masterclass we’ll work our way through a variety of Weinrieder’s wines, with a focus on his different expressions of Gruner Veltliner.
