THE VARIETY
Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc is native to the Loire Valley in France. A pleasantly easy-to-drink wine, Cabernet Franc is medium bodied, has softer tannins and is aromatic which pairs well with grilled steaks and Portobello mushrooms. The lighter styles pair well with chicken or white fish, too.
THE REGION
Loire
Located in Northern France, the Loire stretches over 965 kilometres and contains five wine regions, each one having unique styles, appellations and different characteristics of grapes. The region's viticulture varies for each appellation, although they share an overall cool climate. It is known for having difficult growing conditions in some areas. Despite this, the region produces exemplary wines, specifically white wines, dessert wines and some red varieties. The Loire’s wines generally have high acid with notes of tart fruit and mineral flavours. Main Varietals here are Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Melon de Bourgogne.
