Rheinhessen is Germany’s largest wine-producing area, growing just under a quarter of the country’s vineyards. Sheltered by the mountain ranges the region has a relatively dry and warm climate. The vineyards are dominated by Riesling with varietal taking up 70% of total plantings. The remaining vineyards are taken up by Müller-Thurgau, Dornfelder, Silvaner. Rheinhessen was often overlooked, but now has emerged as one of Germany’s most dynamic and exciting wine regions.
