Main Varietals – Xarel-lo, Macabeo, Parellada, Chardonnay

Covering a large diverse area, the region is known for making many styles of wine but most importantly, a sparkling wine, Cava. Using a majority of the local varietals to make cava, Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada, it isn’t uncommon to blend in some Chardonnay. Cava is made in the traditional method, just like champagne but the local varietals give a fruitier and more tropical note, making for an easy drinking, dry and tropical sparkling wine. There are also a lot of other small plantings of international varieties.
