Every year three young Aussie wine makers that go by the collective name of Jed pack their bags and travel to Mendoza, Argentina, to produce wines with the locals. Their grapes are sourced from the largely untapped, cool-climate Uco Valley which provides a high altitude backdrop and snow melt from the Andes Mountains to create Malbecs with unique character. Violet aromatics and spice are the hallmark of the region and Jed’s malbec exemplifies this wonderfully with bright cherry and blueberry flavours combined with well-integrated oak to provide a delicate and luscious trip for your tastebuds.
Malbec was originally from the South-West of France. Today, though, 75% of the world’s Malbec is in Argentina. Argentinian Malbec tends to have brighter acidity and herbaceous notes. The French counterpart is more earthy, has higher tannins and flavours of blackcurrant and liquorice. The varietal is mellow enough to have with appetizers but also has enough body to pair with rich foods, like lamb. You will find Malbec in a lot of beautiful red blends too.
